The Battle between Good and Evil in "The Lion King"
The classic battle between the good and the bad side could not be more notable in anywhere other than Disney film. Directed towards children, Disney movies were intended to teach lessons and instill morals; therefore the good side would always reign victorious. Obviously, the good side in this movie was the rightful kings of the Pride lands, Mufasa and Simba, and the evil villain was Scar. There is little explanation needed for why the good side is considered the good side in this movie, as Mufasa was a loving, kind king, and Simba was his innocent, pure-hearted child. The two were both kind to Scar, someone who was very rude and deceitful to both of the lions. This kindness ended when Mufasa was murdered.
The villain here was openly displayed, and not much digging was needed to figure this mystery out. Scar, with his constant plots, lies, and sarcasm was not the good guy in this film. He tried three times over the course of the movie to kill one of his family members; he attempted this first when he lured Nala and Simba into the Elephant Graveyard, the second time had succeeded by killing his own brother, and he tried for the third time when Simba returned to avenge Mufasa and recapture the Pride Lands. Scar's true evil nature is discovered when he kills Mufasa, drawling "Long live the king" menacingly as he claws him to his doom (Allers and Minkoff).(Click here to see Scar planning out his takeover in his own musical number!) At the end of the movie Scar, of course, loses, and Simba has his victory, reclaiming his father's dynasty.
